Understanding Auto Insurance
Iowa auto insurance policies come with these standard
liability coverages:
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage
This coverage pays when the insured person is legally liable for
death, or bodily injury caused by your vehicle, or by your operation
of most non-owned vehicles. Bodily Injury liablity coverage pays
for your legal defense if you are sued.
Property Damage Liability
This coverage pays when an insured person is legally liable for
damage of another's property, caused by the insured vehicle and/or
your operation of most non-owned vehicles. This coverage would also
pay for your legal defense expenses in the situation you are sued.
Uninsured Motorist Coverage
This coverage protects you, your resident relatives, and the occupants
of a covered vehicle if any of the above sustain bodily injury or
death in an accident in which the owner and/or operator of a motor
vehicle, who is the legally liable party, does not have insurance.
Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Protects you, your resident relatives, and the occupants of a covered
vehicle if any of these insureds sustain bodily injury or death
in an accident in which the owner and/or operator of the motor vehicle
that is legally liable does not have enough insurance.
There are optional coverages available to cover physical
damage to your insured auto. These coverages include:
Comprehensive Coverage
This coverage pays for loss or damange to your insured vehicle,
caused by any event except a collisiion. Examples of events causing
a possible comprehensive claim include fire, theft, windstorm, hail,
flood, and vandalism. Under most poilicies, transportation and loss
of use expenses under this coverage if your motor vehicle is stolen.
Collision Coverage
This coverage pays for a loss to your covered vehicle when it collides
with another vehicle or ojbecct, or overturns. Most policies also
pay for a collision loss to any non-owned vehicle, or vehicle you
have rented other than a vehicle rented for any employment or business
use.
When applying for comprehensive and collision
coverages, you will need to choose a DEDUCTIBLE.
The deductible is the amount of each loss you agree to pay. Generally,
choosing a higher deductible will lower the premium.
Common Exclusions on a liability
and full coverages include NO COVERAGE for: Bodily injury and/or
death sustained by any person while using or occupying a covered
vehicle while being used to carry property or persons for compensation
or a fee. NO COVERAGE for a covered vehicle without the permission
of you or a relative or a non-owned vehicle without the permission
of the owner.

Understanding Homeowner's
Insurance
The standard Homeowner's policy includes these coverages:
Dwelling Coverage
Covers loss to the dwelling, including structures attached to it,
on the residence premises listed on your insurance declarations.
Other Structures Coverage
Covers other structures at the residence premises NOT attached to
the dwelling, or connected by only a utility line, fence or similar
connection. Sidewalks, driveways, and permanently installed yard
fixtures are covered under "other structures coverage."
Personal Property Coverage
Covers personal property owned or used by any insured person and
located at the residence premise. Not all personal property is covered
- some items are excluded (i.e. animals, motor vehicles, camping
trailers, pickup toppers, etc.). It is very important you discuss
your personal situation with your agent.
Additional Living Expense
Provides coverage for the increased expenses incurred as a result
of a loss due to a covered peril that renders the dwelling unfito
for habitation.
